On September 13, the 3rd DigitalFilipino and Search Profile Index Social Networking Awards will take place at Le Bistro Vert, Fraser Place, Valero Street, Makati, Metro Manila. The awards honor Filipino excellence in social media and social network marketing and advertising.

St. Rita College, Parañaque - Closing

Last Friday, January 29, 2010, a "Black Meeting" was held at the St. Rita College gym in Parañaque. This meeting was primarily initiated with urgency to run after time as it is just a matter of time that the Board of Trustees of the Augustinian Recollect Congregation where our dear St. Rita College belongs to would finally seal the decision to the close the school.

The meeting began with a prayer led by the batch 85 president followed by the reading of the gospel. Everyone was given time to voice his/her opinion about the closure. Some related fond memories with tears; some speakers moved others to tears. The atmosphere was very sad. There was clearly the feeling of parting. St.Rita College management had already submitted to DepEd (Department of Education) their intention to close down by the end of the school year on March 2010.

The sister's convent, the orphanage and the St. Rita chapel will remain open.

The reason for closing -the school had began to suffer losses since late 90's. Last year, the total revenue of the school totaled P9 million and the expenses at roughly P18 million. I'm one of those sad Alumnus to know that our high school Alma Matter is closing!

Octoberfest in the Philippines kicks off on September 5 with popular American alternative rock band "Third Eye Blind" will join Filipinos in welcoming San Miguel Oktoberfest, said to be the biggest, “Fiesta ng Barkada” in the country to date. This year's celebrations will run for 120 days! This year’s festivities will attempt for the Guinness World Records. Targeting to garner the highest number of beer-toasting crowd and having the longest bar.

Simultaneous opening celebrations of this year’s San Miguel Oktoberfest will be held in Ortigas, Cebu, Iloilo, Davao and Laguna. Over 40 bands, including some of the biggest names in the local music industry like, The Dawn, Afterimage, Rivermaya, Nyoy Volante, Nina, Rico Blanco, Paolo Santos, Jimmy Bondoc, Reggae Mistress, Guarana will perform during the San Miguel Avenue opening party.

Add to this, San Miguel Pale Pilsen will also bring its famous sports personalities to interact with the party goers in the “Beat the Champs” corner. Attendees to the party will be given the chance to play with and PBA hard court stars and Efren Bata Reyes in person.

Simultaneous celebrations will be held in the following places in the provinces: Mactan Economic Zone 1, Lapu-Lapu City in Cebu; Capitol Grounds, Iznart Street in Iloilo; Paseo de Sta. The Philippine Web Awards have extended the deadline of nominations for the 11th PWA awards to Sept. 30, 2008. The 11th Philippine Web Awards Night will be held on Feb. 27, 2009 at the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium of the RCBC Tower in Makati City. Awards were given to the best as well and most popular Web sites in 18 categories. Since the beginning of the annual awards, the PWA has been recognizing Filipino ingenuity in Web site creation and design. My Adsense ads have been posted for less than two months now and it's the click rate and CPM rate is performing more than I expected considering that my site only gets about 400 page views a day. The only thing I regret is not having signed up with Adsense a long time ago.

I've also been researching on other blogs for tips on how to maximize the benefits of Adsense and there a lot of useful tips. But I agree with you, Google's tips are basically it. Well, I've now taking notes on the page views and compaging them on the clicks and I will soon experiment on the ad placements once I have enough data. More on that on my next post...

here are some tips i got from google. i'm sure this tips are not one of those confidential info google has prohibited from publishing publicly:

Show your ads above the fold.
Placing ads above the fold (the section of your page that is visible without scrolling) will make the ads more readily visible to your visitors and increase the opportunity for clicks.

Try different ad formats.
Not all web pages are alike, so try using different ad formats to complement the varying layouts of your web pages.

Customize ad color combinations.
* Try using custom color combinations for your ad units. This allows you to ensure that the text, background, and border colors of your ads complement your website. You can choose from a wide variety of colors to create your own custom color palettes, or select from over 20 pre-defined combinations. When using color palettes, we recommend making:
o The background color of the ad the same as or similar to the background color of your page.
o The border of the ad a color that is prominent on your page.
o The title of the ad a color that is similar to the text on your page.
o The URL of the ad a color similar to other link colors on your page.
* For added variety and freshness, you can even choose to rotate through up to 4 different color palettes at a time.

Allow the Google bot to access your site content.

To maximize your potential with AdSense, it is important that your site content is accessible to our content crawler. Certain mechanisms on your site may limit the amount of content we can crawl and use to generate ads.

Frames

If your page uses frames, place the AdSense ad code within the frame containing content so that relevant ads can be served. Placing the ad code in an otherwise empty frame, or in a frame containing only graphics or dynamic content, will prevent us from gathering content and serving targeted ads.

Place AdSense ads on text-rich pages.

Add AdSense ad code to pages on your site that predominantly contain text. Only text is used to determine a page's content. Therefore, although Google's targeting technology is optimized to target ads to pages with frequently updated content, image-heavy pages or pages with dynamic media such as Macromedia Flash ™ may not return relevant ads.

Create pages that are simple and clean.
People typically skim a website for less than a minute. Ensure that visitors to your site can find what they are looking for and are not overloaded with clutter. Readability, clear navigation, and speed of loading all contribute to a well designed website.

Make sure that your font colors are easily read on your background color. Use a font size that is easy on the eyes, and use visual clues such as bullets and horizontal lines to make your site easily understood.
